During the play there were so many different patterns that were shown. I feel like the major pattern that was displayed was all of the sexual references that happened throughout dialogue. For example when Leo told Vera that Bec had a weird pussy, but he liked it. Or even when the box of condoms that were in Leo's bag were on the floor. Another line that was repeated was when Vera would say "whaddayacallit." This happened multiple times during the entire play and Vera would say it when she couldn't remember a particular word. Vera's hearing aid was another image that was used throughout 4000 miles. This was shown in moments such as when she went to talk on the phone, and she had to remove it to get rid of the noise, and when Leo was telling her how Micah died, she didn't have it in and so she didn't hear what he was saying. A few more patterns that occurred could include Leo constantly saying he was leaving the next day, but ended up staying at Vera's house, and also Vera talking to and complaining about her neighbor Ginny.

Yes, there were a few patterns in 4000 miles, I noticed that as well. The one that was hilarious and that everyone saw which you mention is the hearing aid. I was stunned when I read she did not have it in during Leo's explanation of Micah's death. You bring up a great point of Leo saying he was leaving the next day, but only end up saying. I did not notice that was as a pattern before.
ReplyDeleteI never noticed that the sexual references were building into a pattern. The pattern I was most focused on was Vera and her "whaddayacallit" in every other sentence! I also noticed the hearing aid pattern. The scene where Vera tells Leo that she couldn't hear him after his big long confession was funny, but I also couldn't help but feel sorry for him. He just spilled his guts to her and she didnt hear him. I felt like it was one of those "Aw shit" moments.
